Tell us about your career journey and what motivated you to pursue a leadership role in accounting?

It’s a terrific feeling to take the knowledge built up across 30 years as an accountant, and use it to turn raw numbers into real change that impact clients’ businesses, and ultimately improve their financial lives. My role is equal parts financial translator and business advisor – helping understand and resolve issues both quantitatively and qualitatively.

What attracted you to join Salt, and how does this align with your personal and professional goals?

Salt has a calm and diligent focus on excellence and improvement. It’s my goal to complement this with enthusiasm, technical proficiency, and a focus on building relationships both internally and with clients.

What is one piece of career advice you’ve received that’s stuck with you?

“Build a career and work with people where you are excited to come into work every day.” Most businesses are people businesses, when you look at what is needed to succeed.

If you weren’t an accountant, what career path do you think you would have pursued?

Where we end in life is a function of our environment, our passions, and the way we pursue opportunities. If I had stayed in country Victoria, I would have ended up farming; with different choices in this lifestyle, I would have found a scientific pursuit of some type.

If you could give one piece of financial advice to your younger self, what would it be?

Timing is critical to decision making – it is important to make big decisions at the right time and evaluate and plan everything before you do.
