Our New ATO Mail System...

Written by Tamara Djurkovic & Dylan Sinclair

Salt is in the process of introducing a new ATO mail system on behalf of our clients which will allow us to download and distribute all forms of ATO mail in the most efficient manner possible. As we begin this transition, it is important that you, our clients, understand how it operates and how your ATO correspondence will begin to be received. The new ATO Mail system using 2 factor authentication. This means when your ATO mail is sent electronically, you will receive a text message with a 6-digit code which will be required to access the mail via email.

How will this benefit you?

Efficiency:

Physical mail from the ATO can take days and weeks to arrive, and even electronic mail can take long arduous processes to finally get to the client. As such, this new system automates this process to drastically cut the time it takes for you to receive your mail.

Security:

ATO mail often contains sensitive information such as your TFN, income, address, and other personal details. Identity theft is becoming more and more common, thus sending documents via email or traditional post increases the risk of your information being stolen and used by the wrong people.

Environmental:

This new system allows us to receive and deliver your ATO mail without using ink, envelopes, stamps, fuel or paper. Across our thousands of clients, we are able to make a positive impact on the environment.

Reliability:

As the ATO uses six different methods of mail delivery to taxpayers, many miss the notifications or documents that have been delivered. This means that you can miss important lodgement or payment deadlines, impacting your relationship with the ATO.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I still receive paper correspondence?

We encourage you to give our digital system a go for the reasons above, but we still understand that some people are not ready or able to use digital systems. Just let us know if you prefer paper and we can arrange to continue sending you paper correspondence.

Why have I received an SMS but no email?

Our system will only send mail digitally if we have a valid email and mobile number for you. Check your junk mail for the email, otherwise contact our office to confirm your details.

Why have I received an email but no SMS?

Our system will only send mail digitally if we have a valid email and mobile number for you. This could mean that the SMS has gone to an old or incorrect mobile number, but the code in the link is of no use without access to the email – They can only be used concurrently. Please contact us to confirm your details.

I am receiving paper correspondence, how do I get digital delivery?

If you are receiving ATO mail through traditional postage methods it means we either do not have current valid email and mobile details for you, or you have previously asked us to stay with paper. Please contact us to update your details or preferences.
